Time

Time, its the one thing that is running out. We never seem to have it when we need it the most. No one knows that more that Eshaan. He tends to get late, most of the time. By no fault of his, mind you. For him time just flew by, he always managed to find that all-important video to watch on youtube, or that one forum to comb through or movie to ‘research’. Poor guy, there wasn’t enough time for him to do everything.

Today was no different. He was late, as usual. Not a good day to be late. You could see the urgency in Eshaan’s movement. As he hopped across the room and tried to wear his clothes. He tried his best not to get late. But he received that 'cat surprise' link from Akshay, which dominoes to an hours worth of youtube watching.

Jump

I have been driven to do this. I never thought it would come to this, I would be standing at the edge of this bridge. I know at this height, if I jump, I will surely die. But the truth is, this has to be done. For my sanity. You may be wondering why? You would understand if you would have had a day like mine.

It started with my landlord hounding me to pay the rent. I was going to, soon. Just as I would get my salary. To add to my miserable day my car had a flat, I was getting late to office so I decided to go by the bus. I am not very fond of public transport. Everyone is packed like a can of sardines. There is no breathing space. But I had no choice. I had to go. On the bus ride i got pushed around, had my toes crushed and got elbowed in the ribs.

The Patient

Its funny you know, you never think this can happen to you. I mean you see it in movies, read about it in books. But never think you will experience it firsthand. What am I babbling about? Well I will tell you what has happened in my life for the past few week.

Recently, I  watched a documentary on psychopaths killers. I was fascinated. I wondered how someone who would have no remorse for taking another life or even in some cases have a need to kill. As I researched deeper I found out there was documented proof of such killers and there was an asylum close by, that housed one. I was curious, and googled the
name of the asylum. I found a number to call. I impulsively dialed the number. The phone rang. A woman answered. "Hello!" She had a soft voice a very calming voice , she sounded familiar. I stammered a "hello", I didn't expected someone to answer. I tried to gain my confidence and cooked up a story that I was a psychology student and I would like to interview one of their inmates. She calmly asked which one.  I gave the psychopath's name. There was a silence. "That would be difficult, but I wouldn't mind talking to you about this case." She replied. I thanked her set  a time :  6 in the evening. I couldn't believe it that actually worked. I smiled.

I couldn't wait for 6 o' clock. I thought I should read up all I could on the case so that I can sound intelligent when I was talking with the therapist. Before I knew it was time. I was prepaid. I hailed a cab and instructed the driver to talke me to the Greg Asylum. He looked at me like I belonged there. I gave him a cold stare. He rolled his eyes smirked and started to drive.
Half an hour later I was at the gates. The guard stopped the car. I replied "I have come to meet Mrs Watson". "Do you have an appointment" the guard replied. I nodded. He let us in. At the porch, I got off and paid the cab driver.  There was an attendent at the gate who directed me to Mrs. Watson's office. I walked in, she was looking out of the window, her back was towards the door. "Please, have a seat" she instructed. I sat down on the closest seat. I saw the was file on the desk. It had 'patient no: 541'. I was about to take a peek when she turned. "It is nice to have you back, patient 541." Just the before I could react the room filled with tall men in white uniforms storming into the room. I looked at the desk. The file lay there open. I looked at the photo of the patient. It was me. Below my name it read in read "Psychopath and Split personality disoder ".

The Neighbor (The Fortuneteller - Chapter 2)

Hi again, a lot has changed since the last diary entry. I must admit, forgot I had one. To get you up to speed with my life. I have graduated from college, working and staying alone in a small apartment. Unfortunately, I am still single and I am totally over the fortuneteller. Seriously, I am!

The day started like any other,  got up, made coffe and I took my dog for a walk. On the way back, I saw that someone was moving into the neighboring apartment. I tried to peek, but my dog was desperate to go back home an pulled me in.

As I stepped in the intercom rang, I picked it up and answered it. It was a girl. She had a beautiful voice. It was gentle, soft, sweet and familiar.

Could she be the fortuneteller? That was difficult to be sure of as since then I have been seeing the fortuneteller, hearing her voice everywhere I go. I know its not good to go gaga over one girl but I thought she was the one. Now I know better, there is no such thing like fate and there is no one. There are miss opportunities thought. I was not going to miss any other opportunities.

The girl on the intercom was my new neighbor and would like to meet me. I was confused. Why would she want to meet me? Probably she might be one of those.  Who believe we should know our neighbors. I though, whats the harm? What could possibly go wrong, and agreed. Just as I put the receiver down. I realized that had not fixed the time and obviously how would I meet her if the time wasn’t fixed. How stupid of me. Just as was going to pick the intercom to call, it rang. I picked up the phone. it was the neighbor.

"I forgot to set a time, silly me!"

"No problem"

"So, I will see you at 8."

"Sure."

So now the time was set for 8:00. This time I was a bit certain that, she was the [link ]fortuneteller. But who could tell, I had spent such a little time with her and it was so long ago. May be I was mistaken.

I looked at my watch the time was 7:45 am there was still 15 minutes left for her to come. I started making my breakfast and washed the dog’s bowel which he had licked clean. Time passed. The bell rang at 7:57. I had just finished my breakfast. She is early. I got up and got up and answered the door.

It was a salesman he wanted to sell creams I asked him to leave, politely. I don't need cream to make me fair. They just bug me, sometimes. Well that is their job, they can’t help it. Just as close the door, the bell rang again. I opened the door and shouted thinking that it was the same sales clerk. To my surprise it wasn’t, surprise number two was that it was the new neighbor, surprise number three was that she was the Fortuneteller… I was speechless (for a while). After I collected my cool. I quickly apologized. I asked her if she wanted some thing to eat. She said she was famished from the moving in, I invited her in. I can't believe I finally met her, I finally met the “pretty” mysterious fortuneteller.

The Fortuneteller

I was in a fair alone and bored. It was a Sunday afternoon and after a horrible week I could use some distraction in my life. Most people go to the fair with their girlfriends or friends or boy friends. I had gone alone. As I entered the fair I went searching for a food stall. Hunger, one of our basic needs. I found a stall that sold mo-mos, the smell was inviting. I asked for a plate. While I was eating I saw a girl in the crowd.

She was beautiful. She was wearing a white top with jeans and a color full scarf. It was like everyone around her were blobs and I could only see her. Okay I am being a little dramatic. I saw she was talking with somebody, I couldn't get a good look. All of a sudden she look in my direction. So as to not get caught staring at her I turned my head in the opposite direction and pretended to be lost in thought. Which I was, I was lost in thought about her. If she has a boyfriend or if she would even talk to me. I do that a lot , over think things may be that is the reason I dont have a girl in my life. I mean I have friends who are girls but no girl friends. I decided I should try and talk to this girl, I mean with the week I had even a rejection from her would be a good thing. I took a look back at her and saw she was walking towards the stalls in the west end of the fair. There was a smaller crowd there, it may be easier to strike a conversation with her.

I couldn't keep up with her and lost her in the crowd. White was a very common color that day.
"You will meet someone special today. Do you want to know who she is ? Its just Rs 100" a voice said form my right. I looked and saw a girl sitting. I looked up at the sign. It read ' Come and learn about your future'. I don't want to know my future. ma'am my present is messed as it is, I replied. I gave her the 100 bucks for the one fortune she told me. That gave me hope. I know its sad but it felt right at that time. She took the money and wrote something on a peace of paper. "Open it at the end of the day." she gave me te paper.
I gave up searching for the girl and went to a coffe stall, they had a place to sit there. I found a place to sit. As I was sitting saw the girl, she was looking at me, and smiling. I looked to see if any one was there behind me; there was on one responding to the breathtaking smile. When I turned back she was standing in front of me. She asked me my name I stammered “esh..aa..n, w..why? She giggled (my heart raced as if I was running in the Olympics ) “I’ve never heard some one with a surname ‘why’.” That was an ice breaker or alarm to the real world I don’t know, but realizing what happened I corrected myself. She told me her name, it was, crap I cant remember it. I know it had a 'N' in it. We explored the fair together. I enjoyed every moment of it. Time flew.

The next day I woke up in my apartment, alone. I was confused, had I dreamt what had happen in the fiar? I made coffe and a put my hand in my pockets and found a piece of paper. The piece of paper the fortuneteller gave me. It read,

Hi I am the fortuneteller, I really like you. I am the " special someone" you are suppose to meet. I will be seeing you shortly. Also my number is 9812234567 in case you ever want to call me.

I was shocked; I thought that was a dream! Or am I still dreaming? I called the number but there was no reply… after a few tries I finally left a message on her answering machine. I am still waiting for a reply, reply from the “pretty” mysterious fortuneteller.

The Dream

“ Please fasten your seat belts …” the captain voice echoed  from the sound system. Finally, Eshaan thought to himself, some peace and quite. Today wasn’t the best day at work. He had to speak out of turn in the meeting. Well that fatso was asking for it. Why should they need to fire the whole department. The good news was that he did not have to work there any more. Bad news, he had just quit. He was going back home for a fresh start. Right now worrying wouldn’t help. Now its time to rest. He closed his eyes and sank into his chair.

The plane taxied down the runway and took off.

‘Ding-dong’  … Eshaan woke up from his brief nap. What was that ?  He scanned the cabin, the air-hostess had finished their safety demo and the seat belt sign was switched off. Today's super jets didn't take much time to reach cursing altitude, Eshaan though to himself.  He unhooked his seat belt and made his way to the washroom. As he came closer to the washroom the seat belt indicator came back on.

“We are having turbulence trouble, so if you please sit on your seats.” The air hostess announced. As Eshaan hurried back to his seat, jet swerved to the right and lights out.

Ouch! Zane opened his eyes. There were trees all around him, he dusted himself got up. He was so excited! He had discovered the lost temple of the Omegas. In his excitement he tripped over a log. That was not going to stop, him not now. He was so close. The bushes rustled. He stopped moving and began assessing the situation. “ Its just my imagination ” . He assured himself. A twig snapped behind him. He turned. There was a large black body with glowing eyes. It looked like a panther.

He drew his gun.  The creature charged with gaping jaws. See the creature flying at him Zane took a shot. He missed. The creature returned. It charged again this time knocking the gun out of his hands.

Zane was disarmed. The gun was out of his reach. He saw only one way out , the temple. Zane slowly knelt down and picked up a stone. As the creature charged he threw the stone right at it. The stone hit the creature in between its eyes. Zane sized the opportunity and bolted for the temple.

Zane reached the temple. That was quick, he wondered, may be it was the adrenaline. He checked to see how far the creature was.

He is far but will eventually catch up to me. I need to get inside the building.

Zane looked at the door they was some thing written on it.

    "Only the worthy can enter."

Hope I am worthy enough. Zane muttered and pushed the door. The door opened with a mourn. It was like the door hadn’t been open since it was put there.  Zane squeezed though the opening and shut the door.

Once inside Zane turned away from the door.

“WHAT IN THE WORLD …?” Zane exclaimed.

There was a corridor in front of him. The only source of light was coming from the space between the floor and walls. Weird. Zane thought. The walls were also covered by unearthly carvings. Indiana Jones would feel at home. He smiled. Probably he was the only one who would understand his joke.

He studied the carving. He was in the right place. "Fascinating, I only wish I had my camera right now". He pressed on.  He saw there was a room in the end of the corridor. The room had a single source of light in the center. He walked towards the light carefully. As he came closer he saw the light was a staff. As he came close it seemed the the staff shone brighter and then dimmed. Zane was startled.  He studied the area around the staff and then the room. It didn't seem that there were any traps.

“In the movies this would better protected.” Zane said aloud.

“You're right!” A voice said.

A chill ran down his spine, he felt numb. Zane studied the room to figure out the source of the sound.

Zane took a breath in an  shouted “Who … is there?”.

“I am over here, Zane.”

It was the voice again. This time closer. Zane opened his eyes. There was no one in front of him. “What the … how do you know my name?” There was silence.

“ I know everything about you” the voice replied.

The voice, it  was a woman’s voice. “Okay, then who are you?” Zane shouted.

“I am Aura” the voice replied.

Zane was still not able to pin point from which point of the room the voice was coming from. It seemed as if it was coming from every where.

“I am the protector and keeper of the staff . And I intend to protect it from … ”

“Look I am not interested in stealing the staff ” Zane interrupted, “I am here ….” "SILENCE!" Aura shouted. She had heard the same story form every looter who came here, she had been deceived too many times to be fooled again. “You have come for the staff, I know it. You will die like the rest.”

“Look!” Zane said, “You’ve obviously gone through a lot lately, but I am telling the truth I don't want the staff. I can assure you.” Zane started backing away from that staff slowly. He felt like someone was there behind him.

This is so easy Aura thought. All I have to do is skewer him with my sword. But, this is not the way of a true warrior.
She lifted her hand and placed it on a switch and pulled it hard.

The room filled with light. Zane quickly closed his eyes. He felt like the sun was shining in his eyes. He slowly opened his eyes, as they adjusted to the light.

The room was lit now he could see the entire room. The walls were covered in carvings of birds, cat like creatures and so on. Zane stared scanning the room. His eyes fell on a beautiful woman. She was wearing armor, she had a sword in right hand. She had long blond hair soft features and blue eyes. She seemed to be glowing.
Wow, she is beautiful. He was paralyzed.

Aura charged towards Zane. What a way to die huh, Zane thought to himself. He couldn’t move. Aura lifted her sword and got ready to take a swing. Zane dogged it, missing the blade.

What? I didn’t know I could do that. Zane thought to himself. Aura tried a few more swings and missed. Either my reflexes have improved or she is a really that bad.

Before Aura could prepare to take another swing at him Zane caught her hand and twisted it till she dropped the sword. Zane the kicked the sword away from her.

The Myst

“Break it of both of  you.” Zane released his grip and turned .  He froze it was the creature. How did it find me? And it can talk.
He look towards Aura she was on one knee with her head looking at the ground.

“ You have passed. Zane”

What -- Zane whispered. He saw the creature walk towards him. Zane took a step back. His heart was pounding.
This is a tiny room, he told himself, this thing can rip apart.

The creature was not two feet away from Zane.

“Would you prefer my human from ?”  the creature asked Zane.

Zane nodded, involuntarily.

The creature metamorphed into a tall woman. She had sharp features and like Aura her eyes were blue and hair blond. She wore a white robe.

“ My name is Myst ” She said. She walked up to Zane and put he hand on his shoulders to calm him.

In all his years he had not expressed any thing like what he was witnessing now.

“Zane its time to train now. Aura will help you with that. ” Myst commanded.

“Ouch, my head. ” Eshaan exclaimed as he woke up. He opened his eye. At first light filled his eyes. As his eyes adjusted he saw a silhouette of a woman looking at him. As his vision cleared he could see she had blonde hair,  blue eyes then her face .
“ Wow !” Eshaan said “your hot.” Did I say that aloud Eshaan thought to himself. He hoped no one herd that.
“Are you alright?” Aura asked. “I am Aura. Whats your name.” “E … Eshaan …” he replied. He was now trying to sit up. “Who are you again?” Eshaan asked.

Amnesia

Chapter One: Memory
Have you woken up in the morning with no memory of what you did last night.  May be, when one has a little too much to drink. But what if you lost two years of your life. Just like that gone, poof. The people who you met, the places you went to, the things you did. Horrible right?

Night Knight (the full story)

It was a cold night. You could hear the people shivering on the streets. Detective Beckett walked in the building dusting the snow off her jacket. “What do we have here?” “Was a shooting, ma’am.” “Okay, take me there.” “On the third floor… It’s not pretty… ma’am.” “I’ll be fine.”

She enters the elevator. Its sad, really, one shouldn’t be used to it. But in this city that’s how it’s been, ever since the crash. People have lost their jobs, some of them have turn to crime to pay their bills. At least her jobs secure, but at what cost? This is her third call today. As she entered the apartment she saw that there was a body on the couch, male, with a hole in his head and he still had the remote in his hand.
“What was he watching?” “Tom and jerry.” Someone from the forensic team replied. She nodded as she scanned the scene. The officer was right this is ‘not pretty’. This was surely not done by one of the freshers. It was clean, minus the gray matter on the wall. But one shot to the head, a sign of a good marksman. “Is it just the one body then?” “Yes, but there is more, over here detective.” She walks in to the adjacent room. It seemed there was a struggle here. There were bullet marks everywhere. Either the assailant was that bad or the victim was that good? There was a whizzing sound coming from some where in the room. She started to scan for the source. Her eyes fell on a monitor on the desk, the indicator light was on and there was a little green cursor blinking. She walked closer to it. The servos in the web cam buzzed. the screen read. 'HELLO' "Can you hear me?" 'YES' "Who are you?" 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY ROOM' "We are the police. Were you here at the time of the shooting?" 'YES' "Can you come down to the station for more questions." 'NO, BUT I KNOW WHO DID IT.' "Who?" 'SHARP SHOT.' "The assassin?" 'HE IS NO ASSASSIN. HE MISSED ME. :) BIG MISTAKE.' "He shot the guy on the couch." 'THAT WAS HIS PAL.' "What do you mean?" 'FOUND HIM.' "Who?" 'SHARP SHOT.' "Where is he? Let him be, he is dangerous. " 'I KNOW, SO AM I. :)' 'I'LL SEND YOU THE LOCATION, ONCE I AM DONE WITH HIM.' After a few minutes the monitor lit up with the map of the city. There was a red 'x' on the map. "Get a squad there, asap." Beckett barked. "And have tech search this computer." As she finished the sentence the CPU beeped. The monitor was counting down. Every one looked at it in horror. Not to long ago, some cops died in a bomb blast. There were in crime scene and the perp decided to take out some cops too. That was a suitcase bomb. Three beeps and boom. If it was the same bomb no one in the room had a chance. Beckett instinctively leaped. "JUMP FOR COVER" All the officers ran for cover. There was a flash of light. They looked at the computer. The CPU looked fried. Beckett looked at the monitor. It read. 'BYE, SEE YOU. BTW THE NAME IS ... NIGHT-KNIGHT. I AM THE NEW HERO IN TOWN.'
  CHAPPTER 2
The city full them, heroes. They had their own brand of justice and because of that the situation was getting worse. Crime had peeked. A war brewed between the cops, the gangs and the vigilantes. It was not pretty. The mayor had the idea to register these vigilantes. Include them in the fight against crime. Initially the vigilantes were reluctant to register as they did want their identities to be public. But after they were assured that the entire process would be kept under wraps, they agreed to the registration. There are two types of a registered vigilantly; hero and rouge. The heroes, worked with the police in solving crimes. They were paid a set salary. Most of the heroes had patrolling duties. They knew their areas well and that left the cops to handle the bigger things. There were some heroes who highly skilled worked closely with the police. Like the Dream Stalker the psychologist he is an expert at interrogating. He has pulled out a lot of information from the toughest nuts. The rogues, they are very different, they were usually heroes who liked working alone. They were registered and they helped when needed. But they largely worked alone. Her ex-partner had gone rouge. He believes that the system is corrupt. She still believed in the system, but now and again she too has her doubts.

New recruits are brought in and registered by a hero or a cops. That meant it was her job to register Night-Knight. An officer walks up to her and brakes her thought. “Yes” “Ma’am just got word, they have caught Sharp Shot. This was around his neck.” He hands detective Beckett a phone. On the phone there was a photo of a sign around Sharp-shot’s neck. It read: ‘sharp shot go night-knight :)’. Is this night-knight fellow a kid, Beckett wondered. Would explain the name. “I want both scenes swept with a fine tooth comb. Keep me posted” “Yes, Ma’am.” She stepped outside the building into the cold. May be the cold air will clear her mind. She crossed the street and lit a cigarette. She wanted to be alone. It helped her to think when she was far away from it all. “Those are bad for, you know.” said a voice from the dark alley behind her. It was pitch black she couldn’t see anything. She dropped the cigarette, turned around with her gun drawn. “Who is there? Come out! Slowly, with your arms up.” “Easy there. I am just looking out for you. The name is Night-Knight. Remember? I am just here to give you some thing.” He throws a usb thumb drive at her feet from the shadows. Beckett swings the gun and points it at the direction where the thumb drive was thrown. “How can I trust you? How do I know you didn’t kill the man and framed sharp shot.” “Well, firstly the video here will back me up and I didn’t kill sharp shot. You know that? Would be mighty stupid of me to leave a witness behind, wouldn’t it.” “Any how ma'am. Until we me meet again. I am off. Bye” “Hey, stay put or I’ll shoot.” She herd the buzzing noise, like a motor starting. There was light that came form the alley, it blinded her. A motorcycle rode right past her and zoom away. Its silent, she realized. Probably one of those electric ones. It is pointless pursuing. It was too fast. She looked at the usb drive at her feet and picked it up. She walked back to the building. There, two offices standing next to her car. Too preoccupied among themselves to have notice what just happened. She walked up to them, “Hey, give this to tech. tell them to let me know if they find any thing.” Then she sat in her car “What-a-day.” she turned the ignition and drove off.

CHAPTER 3

It was a cold night in the city. Eshaan liked to go out for a walk at this time. With all the crime around the streets were empty. People had a false hope that they were safe in their homes. It was funny. He didn't have to worry, not since the accident.

He hears a shot gun load. he looks up, there was large figure.

"Your money or I will blow you brains" Barked the mugger.

Eshaan smiles. In a swift motion he disarms the mugger and breaks the shut gun.

"What are you?" The mugger asks in horror.

Eshaan continues his stroll. Ignoring the mugger on the ground.

Eshaan's phone beeps. Its a message from Night Knight.

'Meet me on 34th Albert street.'

Eshaan closes his eyes. there is  a flash of light.

The mugger stares as Eshaan vanishes into thin air.

Eshaan appears next to a board that read Albert  Street.

He replies to the txt. 'I am here. waiting.'

A few seconds later. A bike come and stops in front of him.

"You are late.''

"I am not the one who can teleport" Night Knight replied.

"Fair enough. So I heard sharpie found your Safe house. "

"Ya" Night Knight hesitated "thats a long story. Right now I need the data base access keys. My terminal is kind of fried."

"You used the self dist...."

Before he could finish the sentence a car swerved and stopped in front them. The door flung open. It was Detective Beckett, gun drawn.

“Don’t move, hands where I can see them”

“How did you find us.” Night Knight exclaimed.
“The tracker on your bike that is how. ” Beckett replied,  with a smirk. She points the gun at Eshaan and asks “Who are you?”

“Eshaan, can you please lower the gun before someone gets hurt.”

“I am here to get some answers, and to take night knight into custody”

“He told you he didn’t kill anyone.”

“He fled a crime scene and he needs to be registered.”

“He is not an animal that he needs to be registered.” Saying this Eshaan put one hand on night knight and the other on his bike.

"Wait!" Beckett interrupted "Lets make a deal."

CHAPTER 4 (final)

“That was the last that anyone had heard from them.” Beckett to the chief of police. “They may have changed their identities, they may have also fled the city. No one knows where they are. Who they are. I suggest it's best we concentrate on other cases”

“I guess you are right.” The Chief agreed.

As Beckett exited the office she got a text. ‘Mission Accomplished?’ She replied ‘Yes’.

Her phone beeped again ‘Night Knight’.
